I checked the width of the gif of the PR bar for my site in the directory. It's 27 x 4 The next listing has a gif of 22 x 4 But, if I go to another similiar but different genealogy catagory (a level closer to the main), the top site has the same size gif as mine. But, they only show a PR 5 and my site is a PR7. So, they have the same size gif with different PR values? Unless, my site dropped from a PR7 to a PR5 or their site went up from a PR5 to a PR7. Any ideas? Thanks.
The 27 is PR7, the 22 is PR6. The PR shown on the toolbar is out of date. The PR in the directory is up to date.
I read somewhere that the PR in the Google directory may be the PR dating back to several months ago.... but then again... it may be the new PR.... never know until Google decides to update the PR in the toolbar servers....
Nope... the PR in the directory is up to date... many of my sites are showing higher PR in there with PR that it never had in the past. The forum showing PR7 for example.
DMOZ seems to be going through some sort of RDF generation process, does this mean the directory will be updated soon?
No... ODP does the RDF weekly. Anyone including Google can get the latest RDF data whenever they want. And Google does not do it weekly.
check out http://www.webrankinfo.com/google/pagerank/echelles.php this page is written in French but I assume that it's clear...
I don't think that there is such a simple relation between the toolbar scale and the directory scale since these scales don't have the same number of steps (7 in the directory, 10 in the toolbar). we can't make valid tests today because the toolbar is not up to date...
The 7 steps I found in the PR bar Google directory are: (lengths of pos.gif image) 5 11 16 22 27 33 38 Beside the pos.gif green image is the neg.gif white image, with a length defined so that the sum of these 2 images be 40. Google sites may have a length of 42 but it is a special case. Please show me the other steps because I'm not seeing them...
I guess I never looked close enough... you may be right (I guess I never really paid attention to stuff under PR6). What I see is the following: 0 = PR0 (actually null) 5 = PR2 11 = PR4 16 = PR5 22 = PR6 27 = PR7 32 = PR8 38 = PR9 44 = PR10 It's hard to say for certain though since it's out of synch with the toolbar.
Shawn, I guess there is not any direct relation between the two PR scales. For example, Microsoft.com is PR10 but "Directory-38" http://directory.google.com/Top/Com...port/Consumer_Software/Microsoft_Corporation/ Another example: CNN.com is PR9 but "Directory-32" http://directory.google.fr/Top/News/ And: BBC News has the same PR as CNN (PR9) but not the same Directory PR (38) ;-) PR Weaver
Well, that's what I was saying.. the toolbar PR is 6 weeks out of date, so there is no way to really compare it until it's brought up to date.
I chose websites with PR not changing so much, and the facts reported here are known since 1 or 2 years... We'll see if Google updates the toolbar PR!!!
