PR is just one of many indicators by which websites are evaluated. Just one of many. But if it "means nothing", as so many DPers confidently declare, I wonder why Google assigns so much time, effort, money, and software engineers to calculating and publishing it. We learned in business school to "follow the money trail". It is extremely unlikely that Google would invest as much as they do into something that is meaningless. My fellow webmasters, just for a moment put aside the "PR means nothing" mantra and consider the cold, hard-cash reality that PR must mean something to Google, or they would have long ago abandoned their extensive investment in it. This is not rocket science and should be quite evident to those with an understanding of how the business world operates.
This is correct, Pagerank is a factor in search results, but not to the level that many people would like to believe, this is clearly represented by the fact that majority of top search results are usually mid-level Pagerank, usually out ranking sites with much higher Pagerank. Pagerank's common sense usability in search results would simply be to place a "value" on inbound links. I still personally worry about getting rich unique content on my site, the "natural" backlinks will follow.
To answer the original question of the poster, I do see a PR drop on a few of mysites. Nothing too dramatic, just a drop of a notch. But what is weird that some data-centers show me a higher PR, up by a notch. Another of my site is showing me PR of 14, yes 14, I dunno why.
I have seen a massive drop in one of my major websites SERPs in the last 24 hours. I don't know if this is related.
hey i got an update from 0 to PR3 lately and i am expecting to go to 4-5 now since i got some high PR links lately.....
I have rechecked and its working fine... I think you must clear your cache because javascript files are stubborn and don't update every time you refresh.
Digpagerank is working fine for me. Mong- with Backlinkwatch, is there a problem with the PR of banklinks showing up ?? I've just run a test, and out of the 1000 links showing, there is no PR showing up for any of them. Alex
Thank you for the replies, I was interested in seeing if this was a singled out drop or part of the oddness of G lately.
I haven't noticed any drops, at least not for the sites I monitor, but I am seeing a lot of "gray" bars in the Google Toolbar.
