Hi just wondering if anyone has found that PR has decreased for them when they have sold links on their site, or have put external links for whatever reason, and notice a PR reduction? Or simply, does increase outbound links = change in PR?
Yes, definitely..even if they are related, but too many... However, irrelevant out-links are likely to be considered as sold links so they could not only decrease PR but also bring some penalty.
its called sharing PR which means YES probably wont decrease but will halt or slow down your PR 1 2 links is ok but 5-7 external links is not good for any page
No, the amount of PR you can 'send' to each link reduces, but you don't leak out your own PageRank. It's only a factor for your own site, because you are also reducing the PR sent to internal links. If you're selling links you may be penalised. And Google recommends no more than a hundred links - not seven - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/10/linking-out-often-its-just-applying.html http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769#1
DP gets a lot of spam these days .. If you don't know the right answer, please do not post .. 5 unnecessary posts .. Thanks magda ..
I thik that Google states that you should have no more than 100 out going links on any one page, although why you would need this many is beyond me. Outgoing links pass your page rank to other sites, unless you use the rel=no follow attribute in which case this will block you losing page rank and keep it on your site
I don't find the POOL useful -- as it is as simple as -- When I buy more things - the size of my wallet or bank balance also decreases! On a serious note - YES -- But you can keep the PR if your site also keep getting high valued links on a regular basis. Your bank balance remains the same or increases/decreases depending on your regular income compared to expenditure.
1..The PR of you homepage is calculated from it's incoming links, nothing else. 2. That PR value is then shared with external links. Does it decrease when shared? Read #1 again. Bompa
yes if the outbound links are too many and not relevant to your original business you might get slap from google.
Yup decrease it for sure. You got to think about pr like a peice of cake. If your page is pr5 and you link out too even one other site, then your giving them a peice of your pr cake. It wouldnt decrease the pr for that particular page, but it would decrease the amount of cake that page is giving to your other pages. How much cake goes to outboound links is beyond my understanding though, I just know at least a crumb or 2 does.
Hey Bompa .. You are also in here .. Thanks for adding a good answer .. But people don't understand simple things these days Look at most of the answers ;. They say , YEs! For sure!
oh my lord shame to see that most people are confused about PR. Just refer to Magdas post for the truth.
Theres no reason for what you are saying. Getting links from relevant websites with a normal speed can improve your pagerank.
It doesn't affect your pagerank, but it does affect your rankings. Total number of outbound links, along with PR are both factors in determining where you rank on a SERP.
Google may decrease PR of the web site if you give lot of irrelevant outbound link from your website. Now day’s lot of people is losing the PR, but the reason is some thing else.
wow, so many answers and opinions. Magda was the first person to answer the question correctly. I understand where confusion comes from as if you have many external (even internal) links it means your internal pages will get less PR juice and thus will have lower PR. Thus adding many links will decrease PR of your internal pages, NOT THE HOME PAGE.
