I came across this article by Bob Wakfer today.

Google PageRank, & How to Get It

There is a chart which tells the number of links needed approximately to achieve PR 5, 6 , 7 or 8. An excel sheet can also be downloaded to change values and get results.

However, I think this tool makes an assumtion that the existing site PR is 0.

I want to know if there is any tool which can do a similar prediction based on the current Google PR of a site?

Say I have a site with PR 5 and I want to see how many links I'll need and the quality of the links I'll need to go to PR 6.

Maybe the tool can somehow use the backlinks on Google, Yahoo and MSN and predict the next PR???

The problem with these calculations (as I see it) is there is nothing factoed in to take into account the number of links on the page. i.e. he is saying an average of 85% or PR is being passed, but how often are you the only link on a page?

Also it doesn't consider relevance either.

IMO although the calculations may be right in the example situation, this will never happer, therefore it's worthless.

this could be an interesting idea for a tool..

lets say i just started a website, i can enter in my domain, and the domains of sites i just bought links on with the exact anchor text of the link. using the old pr equation i should be able to figure out an estimated pr.

yes, exactly, I was looking for a tool that would tell this.

To answer youe query steve_gts, the chart also assumes that there is an average of 50 links on the link page. You can change that value in the excel sheet and the number of links required change accordingly, i.e. if you reduce the number of links on the link pages, the required links will reduce and increase if the number of links increase. A good idea will be to take an average of number for the links that exist on other link partner sites.

But again, there are so many other factors that need to be considered, its not so simple.

there are already a lot of tools but none of them seem to give accurate results. If you search around, you'll find quite a few.
If you want me to send you some links, let me know. I'll be happy to help :)

My point here is that a link prediction tool is different from a link calculation tool.

Please see the example links I gave in the very forst post here. It calculates and gives you the number of links required to get PR 5 , PR6 , 7 or 8 website.

So what we're looking for here is a tool which will consider your current PR and give an estimate of the number of links required to get to the next desired PR. :)
