Hi everyone, I'm a total n00b when it comes to getting traffic.

One of my sites has around 5000 pages indexed on Google but I hardly get any traffic from the search engine. Is it because its PR 0.. will a PR increase improve the traffic situation?

    Thanks

Your better off just forgetting bout PR.
But to answer your question if your PR goes up will you get more traffic. Well yes and no. It can due to the higher the PR = more people linked "to" you = more chances of people coming to your site.
No because a PR 1 site can rank higher in the SERPS then a PR 3 site as a lot of other factors play a role as well like: on and off page SEO, age of site, penalties etc.

here is a link that may help it is an older article but it may point you in the right direction.

    it is just that hype.

if you want Google "high heel shop" without the quotes

My site is ranked number 1 with a PR of 2
shoefest is ranked number 2 with a PR of 3
and allsexyshoes is ranked number 3 with a PR of 4

Hi guy.. may be your site visibility in search engines are not good so for that you have to submit your site in directories with relevant category... I did so and found good result although it will take some time but you'll get a good output..

This shows the prevailing misconception held by many about rankings. Anybody can rank #1 for noncompetitive keywords. Case in point: your three-word expression high heel shop receives zero searches daily, per WordTracker.

Try ranking on the first page for highly competitive words like "real estate" or "pharmacy", etc., with a PR2. It won't happen.

P.S. I'm not pointing this out to make a big push for PR. I just want to point out that most of the anecdotal stories about low-PR pages outranking high-PR pages are referring to keywords that are not very competitive and/or draw very few searches.

To improve your rankings in the search engine you need to build
high quality backlinks to the main page as well as the sub-pages
in your site. You can build backlinks through article submission,
directory submission, and press release distribution.

However the page rank is imo not the primary reason for those sites ranking so high for such competitive niches. Their PR it is a by-product of the link building, content and profile of those websites which caused them to land on front page. IMO Google might as well scrap PR.

True, PR is a by-product of the link building, but lets take a blog about health that has a high PR. Now that probably means it has a lot of quality links from health related sites. But what is also important is, that because of its high PR, if it makes a page about tennis that tennis page will go up in the search engine too and that is just because of PR.

PR can also be incresed by having back links..
the more no. of back links the PR increases...
can have more back links by posting blogs, social bookmarks, articles and directories.
This works... ! to increase PR.. !
