I was looking around on the web for some high quality directory submissions to work on when I noticed web2grid.com (by the way I am not affiliated with this site in any way) with a page rank of 6. It had a nice layout with plenty of relevant categories. I wasn't sure if the latest featured links listed in many areas of the site was a good thing as there has been a good bit of discussion recently on whether or not site wide links are held in low esteem by the search engines that count, but I was still interested at this point. I proceeded to pick a topic and check out the rules and guidelines. Once I hit the directory submission page I noted that featured links were $25 for lifetime, regular $15 for lifetime and the only free option was with a reciprocal link. Even though this is a high ranking directory, before considering paying those prices, I started to do a little checking and noted that the historical thumbnail from October of this year did not resemble the look of the site today. For the sake of helping us less experienced Digital Point members, can someone that is knowledgeable in such matters give their opinion on whether or not it would be worth the directory submission fee? Is the page rank likely to be dropped in the next update? What is the future of such a site? Thanks for your help and your opinions.
Well done on doing your research Dropped domain Only 50 backlinks Free template Directory will likely be dead in a few weeks. Steer clear
thats true mikey . Many are dieing to get their hand on high page rank DROPPED domains, so they can monetise them a little ...
Many people jus buy a high pr domain and make them as a directory, make some money and then the pr will drop.
look it wont be true that pr will dropped but at the same time you need to be careful for promotion as you dont have enough time between two PR update.
Check Alexa ranking. It's high 1.8 million. No traffic in the past year and no thumbnail. It is a recycled domain.
I came across it on directory critic's new listings page. I don't submit to PR0 pages unless it's to help somebody on the forum, so I was (temporarily) pleased to see a PR6 that I had not submitted to previously. Suspicious, but pleased; then disappointed. I'd like to ask another question, is there any way the owner of this dropped domain could make good and promote enough to keep the PR up? I was wondering if this is a wise strategy in some aspects.
This is some good information I did not know about. I didnt know people would buy a website in order to list it as a dir.Good stuff. Whats the sure-fire fastest way to spy this out?
The sure-fire fastest way is checking at http://www.archive.org/index.php beware there is a lot of those scams...
Dropped domains generally have several tell tale signs: 1) Unrelated backlink count (The description on the links pages doesn't match the content on the page) 2) Small backlink count that doesn't support the high PR 3) Interior pages have no PR 4) Whois shows domain registration is new I'd say 85% of the websites I've been shown that are over PR5 at DP in the BST forum are dropped.
now directory submission is worthless. because google is not considering as a back link. and I did for 1 client 6 month back .he has just go 10 actual back link from those 1400 directory site.. No use..
With the number of free templates available its so easy to set these up now. You see in the BST forum people offering massive packages for like $40 by creating directories in this way. Its annoying if you actually take the time to run a good quality directory when there is spam like this.
There are probably more scams like this (and I'm sure that there are plenty) than there are reputable directories, for certain. I'm still pretty new at all this and if I had known the exact steps to take to check a site's authenticity it would have saved me a lot of time. Maybe we should have a "whistle blower" forum to expose sites when we come across them?
Thanks for the information I am also looking to buy a link in directory link.. Still not sure to pick one of them.. So many scams.. we must becareful
