How can I find out how many searches for a particular keyword are carried out on for instance a certain day?

Impressions only count the number of times your ad is displayed, right? so if the bid is too low you'll not get an good idea of how many times the keyphrase is searched for? is that correct.

My guess would be that you have to set an appropriate budget to cope with as many hits as u might expect and set a pay per click amount that will see you on the first page all day. As well as having all the relevancy issues in place would that be the correct strategy?

The only reliable way to find out the traffic for a term is to set up a campaign, and have your advert on the first page 24/7 - Google and Yahoo will both give you estimates, but they're hopelessly inaccurate.

Is the information that valuable? Unless you're trying to justify the cost of managing the account (or having somebody to manage it for you), then why does it matter if a keyword gets 100 or 10000 searches per day - you'll still make or lose money depending on the cost per click and conversion rate, the only difference is the amount that you make or lose...

I wanted to assess the market in an emerging field and how much time I should spend in relation to the seo organic results.
