I would say that SEO is more valuable in the long run, but PPC is still a must. So both are necessary parts of online business, but if you had a bunch of #1-#5 rankings in Google, those will likely generate you more traffic at a lower CPC.

I totally agree with childeroland, both are important but it depends on your niche.
For example if you want to sell hosting, don't start with seo because the competition is to big.

They are both effective, but I prefer free traffic over paid traffic.

PPC is preferable than SEO because in these days seo things are very shacky so you cannot depend on it.
It also depends on your model of business.
Can you wait for long months to get fruit of SEO ?
or are you sure you'll get your desired rankings with seo?

on the other hand PPC is 100% controlled way.

SEO is not always free ;) there are still people who don't have time and the knowledge to gain a better ranking. But anyway like said before both but it still depends on your niche.

I agree. I was speaking only from a personal standpoint since SEO is "free" to me (besides time spent)

PPC scores over SEO in the fact that one can just about show his site for any keyword depending upon how much you can pay and also the fact that it takes less time to produce results.

SEO, on the other hand is cost-effective.

Also some people argue that having your site in natural search is a reflection of the authority you have in your market.

e.g nokia and sony ericsson both make phones but nokia is No.1 for virtually all searches in the mobile phone space.

Consumers infer from this that nokia is a more authorative brand then ericsson.

If You want to sell something I highly recommend PPC especially adwords. You can write an ad in 4 lines and you can find a customer exactly for Your products.

    Hi,
It depends on your business or product/services you are offering. If the competition is too large, go for ppc first because it will help you in marketing your bussiness otherwise go for seo and ppc both in a normal way as both are important. Both has its own value. It will be more bemeficial if you use both.

    Thanks

Well if you use PPC then you will have to pay per click but SEO for onetime means forever PPC is not much guaranteed but if you get high rankings in the search engines for the natural listings then you can earn a heck of money.

    This depends on the site.

If you find a great keyword to target for PPC then go PPC.
If you find a great keyword to target for SEO then go SEO.

If you are going for long term then go SEO, short term PPC.

    Keywords are the key.
