    Hey guys,

Come across a bit of a dilemma and I can't really see which way to go.

I will set the scene first. I run SEO and marketing on a set of e-commerce sites, they have a PPC budget which my colleagues are effectively utilizing and we appear 1-4 for nearly all my target keywords. We want some specially designed and themed landing say for "blue widget" as apposed to having "blue widget" halfway down the "widget" category page. My site is dynamic (aspx) and I am trying to evaluate the risks of having the pages in. What about duplicate content?

After reading around a little on the issue I have raised the following questions I could do with a hand with.

    1) Should I link from my main site to the landing pages and if so do I need or some kind of robots instruction...s" as well Thanks for any time guys -Diablos

There is no penalty for having duplicate content within your website, so don't worry about it too much (Venessa Fox of Google said so). Search engines will choose one page to display in their results. If someone searches for "blue widgets", then the landing page of that keyword will probably be the one that appears. Make sure you put the keywords in your Title, Metas and Headings.

If you really don't want robots to read your special landing pages, then put those filenames into your robots.txt file.

    Cryo.

That's true to an extent.... but you can't have 3000 pages with the same article and think you will rank well.

Ya I kind of agree to disagree on this. If you have duplicate content within your site those pages will not rank. So in a way that's a penalty. But if you were to pay someone to write some content for you it will eliminate the problem completely. We have clients that have hired content writers to write up 4000+ pages for them. And all of a sudden the pages started to rank by themselves.

I think getting a writer for a couple weeks is your ultimate plan. just "getting by" is never a good option as you are trying to get as much power out of your site as possible. And if it takes 20 blue widgets for you to make up some of the cost then so be it...
