PPC Just Doesn't Work For Some E-Commerce Stores?

So we recently launched myStethoscope.com selling stethoscopes.

Optimized the crap out of the site and it's pulled in about 18 sales since our launch 10 days ago.

With that said, most of those sales were generated through search engine traffic - not PPC.

We have spent a lot of money for the first spot in many related keywords and have yet to generate a sale! We have tracking code to make sure of this.

It's starting not to make sense - search terms are specific to the products we sell, all ad titles are descriptive to the search term, each landing page is specific to that product, prices are very competitive, etc etc. I've went through this a thousand times and can't figure why nobody is buying. Competitors are some very large companies, i can't imagine they hired some guy to click away our ads.

Any suggestions on what to do next? I yanked all my ads on Google. I can't keep paying $1 per click without receiving sales in return! We're trying a new method to advertise on specific sites now, such as med students forums.

Anyone having a ton of sucess on google adwords or yahoo search marketing?

    Any advice?

hmmm I never knoew Stethoscopes were that expensive, the best I could tell you is to check all your logs and go through each visitor and find out what exit page they are using, (when they leave your site) it could be just a minor payment processing problem. I have seen competitors click bomb the competition so dont rule it out.

    bbott,

It seems great 18 sales in first two days and that is also though regular SERP. Mosat of us feel sanbox effect for 6 months before we get any good result in Google and yahoo.

Anyway. Come to PPC. You may be paying too much for your Keyword to get it the top position. Try to use some below steps to increase the ROI.

    1. Lower the CPC and keep the ads in the range of 1.5 to 5 in Ad position.
    2. Use exact and phrase matching. Remove the Braod match. Or better keep those braod match in a new Ad group and Pause that group for future use.

    3. Put some Negative words. As you know searchers with some specific type queries never buys. Avoid showing your ads to them. It could be free, informational stuff on your product etc.

Try these methods one at a time and test it like Mad. Remeber Corey Rudl statement, " Test Everything, trust nothing".

I think the problem is that you want first spot in adwords! Note that usually the lower the place the higher ROI! Perry Marshall's tests show that spots #4-7 are the best to target.

Of course, the number 1 spot should increase your keyword CTRs! That's good. But to generate more sales you don't have to bid higher than 3-4 spot!

    Position #1 sucks!

    Made the same mistake.

Far better ROI positioned between 3 and 6.

That said, I have found the same kind of problem. Plenty of traffic but low conversions.

    Seems PPC isnt for everyone!

Dropped all listings to position 5. We'll see how things go today.

Also, I have content match turned off because I know webmasters click their own ads often.

Do many of you just pay for search results or content matches too?

I'm debating on turning these on for a day or two to see how I make out.

The site looks good. You need to focus on your word combination / selection in adwords - and this will develop over time as you track each ad. On many days I just get clicks to my site but no conversion. I am currently trying to wordsmith each ad, and target the audience.
