well the paper is not about any software to generate clicks. but a method to generate clicks with different valid IP each time, something that simulates a user clicking on an ad. this is very hard to detect. and the paper was written by research scientists at Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies, their method is simple to implement. this paper has been on the net for a while, wonder how many actually carried it out. not a very comfortable thought....

The basic problem with this scheme is I do not think actually takes into account the sophisticated means which by google is likely to track clicks. They have access to a lot of information and can determine normal and abnormal behavior.

It would take a pretty sophisiticated program to randomly emulate a large number of people in a manner that would not be detectable. It is possible? Sure anything is possible. I don't think it is nearly as easy as this paper indicates, and I think the methods used there would likely be detected due to other data beyond what the researchers are taking into account.

Google is not just looking at AWS to determine if there is click fraud going on.

Just by trojaning on normal traffic is not enough. Google is going to know that some traffic would never be clicking on ads, and when they do it will be easy to flag.

google do have very sophisticated means to detect fraud, and I don't think this method will work on google. but what other PPC search engines like searchfeed, 7search etc. all a scammer needs to do is find 10 PPC programs and rip off $500/month of each and make $5000/month.
going by the method you'd need just 25-30 visitors to simulate about 25 clicks on each program. that means with just 25 visitors a day you could simulate 250 clicks since the different ppc search engines do not share the click thru data with each other.
this can be done, not on gooogle or yahoo but on smaller ppc programs. and that's exactly what makes it scary....

Do people even use that junk? Would seem like a waste of money even is there isn't any click fraud there

With the speed of Internet, reading something that is 7 years old is useless, things have changed many times since that paper was written

sure things have changed but you could still use this method on smaller search engines
