Where did you get that information from? There is absolutely nothing stopping an amazon affiliate from using PPC to get traffic to their amazon pages or site! You just can't use your affiliate link in the PPC to drive traffic direct to amazon. You need to stop posting misinformation.

Driving ppc traffic to amazon is not against there rules, but most bigger ppc networks wont allow you to use affiliate links, you will have to drive traffic to an landing page first. In my first link in signature, you can find good adwords alternative that will give you free 20$ to try there service. Good way to learn ppc for free. If you see my last link in signature, they also have really cheap ppc (2cents+). I have used both of them for a few times and had a lot of success with them (and also few fallings). I would also suggest that you only promote products that can make you 20$+ in commission. Reason for that is simple math. Lets say your average cpc will be 10 cents. With luck, every 100 visitor will actually buy something. That means, that every buyer that you will bring will cost you 10$. And you have to make some money too right? So that's why promote prudocts that can make 20$+ in commission. Just search on amazon and sort products by bestselling. Maybe that will help you promoting easy selling products.

My bad, looks like I will have to read there rules again. When I was driving traffic through ppc last autumn I had no problems. And I also didn't found nothing about that rule back then.

I have used Google Adwords to drive traffic to my amazon affiliate sites many times. The last time I ran a campaign, the clicks for the keywords I was using cost me $0.30 to $0.70 cents and I at 4% to 6% on sales I needed to sale a $16.00 item each time I paid for a click or sale more expensive items.

I have decided to use my Amazon affiliate sites just to learn my webmaster craft better and start purchasing my own products in bulk once I am much better at converting surfers to sales. I think Amazon is great test platform. I will use Adwords again once I have revamped the copy on my sites.

As far as keywords go, get a Adwords account and have the application help you with choosing keywords. You don't actually have to run a campaign to get an Adwords account.
