I found this interesting bit of information while browsing C/Net. Seems that Adsense has a much wider appeal than I would have thought. It's interesting that they state that most of these URLs are abandoned after a few days. I guess many people think Adsense is quick bucks and don't take the time to really develop a site and see that you can actually make decent money from it (with lots of work of course!).
Not abandoned in the sense they just left the url alone and empty. But abandoned in the sense that they put some minor content up with adsense ads, then moved on to another url. This is the tactic that is espoused (god, I love that word) by the so-called adsense gurus who say that if one site bring in a buck a day via adsense, then having a thousand sites will bring in a thousand bucks a day. I have a few sites that I do nothing with (mostly because they do require too much work to update with new content, etc) and they do bring in a little revenue everyday from people who find the sites. Quite a few people follow this tactic of building one page sites with adsense by the hundreds every day. Then there are those who build small sites by the hundreds just to sell them off on ebay and on forums like DP...see the sites for sale here that are brand new and the sellers want big bucks for them.
I did understand that abandoned meant that the site isn't developed much further. It's just strange that so many people are following that route. There's just so much more money to be made by developing a site to a good level and then moving on to the next. I guess I will just never understand the 1001 sites and MFA site mindset.
Most ppl just don't know how to develop a site or they want quick $ and don't want to put any effort on it.
ONe word to understand MFA's and having thousands of sites: LAZINESS Or add another word: GREED Then there are those who buy domains in bulk. Some have found that instead of the domains parked somewhere until either used or sold, that to put something on them, creates a little income to offset the costs of the urls. Look at SEDO, the domains parked there waiting to be sold are monetized so that they bring sedo some money, plus the domain owner some money. I have a few domains parked there for sale and they are making more money parked there than when they were active!
I don't think that's becuase of PPC Domain name trading had been cover in different magazine this year..and the 14 million sex.com sales...i think those are the reason.. me myself start getting domain after reading the business 2.0 december issue...and since then i bough over 100 domain...the ROI of domain name is big...all you have to sell is one or two name and you will cover all the money you spent.. i sold 1 name via sedo so far and the money i've got is enough to cover my reg fee
just look at all the "MAKE 12.345$/day IN JUST 15 MINS WITH THIS INCREDIBLE 59,95$ SOFTWARE!!!" -sites. they couldnt sell this scraper scripts with with an advertising like "you can make 5$/day after you spent 3 months developing a unique site!" on the other hand i think thats only a temporary problem, its hard to find scraper sites via search engines and you dont read blogs like "yeah, i really made 120.000$ this month with my scraper site - i move to a caribbean island now and buy a house with seaview and 3 hot chicks!". could be also possible that they just dont spent any time in front of a computer anymore with so much money to burn, im not sure about this
