I've got these Russian builders over doing up the bathroom and he said he likes house. So I thought I play my decks for them. I used to hook them up to the line in of my Windows box and play over the computer speakers (don't have proper HiFi here). So now with my Powerbook, I was hoping to do the same. From my mixer to the line-in. The Sound Preferences does 'hear' it since the input level 'Michael Knight - Kit' equalizer thingy does move. But I hear nothing. How do I hear the input? I did find this comment, but surely my Mixer provides enough bumpf to get this going? I have a 15" by the way...
Sowwy for da bump but check this out... On warranty dead line day I finally got round to sussing this out. Rang Apple, was on the phone for close to an hour and the guy concluded I had to bring it in. The service centre just rang to say it's working fine and check this out... Apparently when you plug a source into the line in, you're not even supposed to be able to hear it come out right away again. It's only to record!!! Can you believe that?! Are they even right? What's the bloody point of a line in if you can't use it like any 'normal' computer can? And most of all, why didn't the muppet on the phone tell me this? So anyone with a Powerbook/MacBook can yuo do me a favour and try this. Get a powered source like an iPod, hifi set or quality microphone, hook it up to the line in... Can you hear the sound over your speakers? I can't and these people say that's how it's supposed ot work. Not a happy bunny and if they're going to charge me I'll be very ticked off.
No, just through nothing. Plug in an ipod or HiFi set / turntables and mixer and I want to hear it...
