to me viral marketing is just a way to get leads. It is very powerful yes, but you have to be careful with it due to people opting in, then opting out as soon as they get the product, or merchandise

I disagree - Viral Marketing is all about creating a "buzz" about a product.

The more people talk about something - the Viral Buzz kicks in.

They do create a buzz yes, but at the same time over 99% of the viral marketing out there is not going to give you something for free before you give them your email, and name:D :D :D

I'm starting to research viral marketing now. I just posted something in my blog about an automatic pdf generator for viral marketing. Does anyone have any more resources for this topic?

Viral marketing definitely works. I have tried that before. But you also need to make sure what you give out is free but of some value. Then, if you get some gurus to endorse your product, that will create MORE BUZZ!

There are some interesting opinions here.

Some examples of Viral Marketing materials:

    • Tutorials
    • Articles
    • Photos
    • Videos
    • RSS Feeds
    • Tools
    • Programs
    • Google Buttons
    • And many more

What do they all have in common?

    • They interest the viewer
    • Viewer shares with others
    • A piramid forms as sharing multiplies

Your brand is then being distributed freely on (a typically) more personal level coming from friends, not like an AD. Viral marketing works just like a computer virus. I'm NOT saying it's a virus, just relating to how it works, moves, and multiplies.

    Hope that helps someone.

    What?!

Of course you can use viral marketing!! It's about creating a product that is of value to people, that they can pass on and share freely. The product (video, ebook, whatever) should be interesting in itself but also create sufficient interest in the user to got to your website.

Sometimes it will work sometimes it wont. Its about "starting off the chain reaction"
