obviously the beauty of adwords is the control level of marketing down to the keyword level. however its advantages are beyond the conversions data. have you guys experienced this too? i have a nice account going with around 20,000+ impressions/day with a decent ctr. however, i noticed that the overall site traffic increased substantially since the start of adwords. in my case, it more than 5X the number of visits per day, including the couple hundred directly sent from clicks. adwords is a great marketing tool allowing you to display a message with your URL. people do type in the URL and visit out of curiosity. how many people is the question? how does your lil adwords ad have an effect from a general marketing perspective? have you guys experienced great increases in traffic, not counting the direct clicks, due to the power of your adwords ad impressions? branding seems to be a goal for some big time companies, but how effective do you think adwords is for generating general interest to make a person type in your url, instead of clicking and costing you?
slim to non. I would say if I had 1 million impressions I would have 1 person type in the URL. Why go through the process of entering the URL if you can simply just click on it. I do not think there are enough people to really care about typing in the URL. If I did that for every search I made every day, I would spend countless hours just typing in URLS. The increased growth over time is most likely due to your campaigns gaining more traction. Also, remember when you first start a campaign, you still go through a review process of which you traffic is limited until approved. While you probably wont get very many free clicks, you will probably get people to bookmark and directly type in your URL once visited and over time the amount of direct hits would increase.
no it didnt happen over time. for the past 4 months traffic was around 300 a day. the day i ran adwords, the visits increased by around 2-3X and then over 5X, all of a sudden, while i was only receiving about 150 clicks. Most were unique visitors.
I cant show you, its client confidentiality. "I do not think there are enough people to really care about typing in the URL." out of the billion users or so, there are all sorts of users with varying degrees of search methods and use. many still type in the url in the google search box query. the principle rule in marketing especially on a scale like this is to never assume based on your own habits or methods. I remember a lot of urls in my head and type them in. I dont visit these sites often and I have too many bookmarks, so I type it in when I need to visit them. big time companies market with their URL. They plaster www.whatever.com everywhere with their branding. they compete aggresively with high cpc rates to protect their branding in front of their targeted search terms. depending on the type of market you are doing adwords in, a message can carry far along with the URL. if people are clicking, they are scanning and reading. if they are scanning and reading, they are intaking a message from neighboring ads. if that message is appealing or interesting, the user will be inclined to take action eventually or may come back to it. yes over time, makes sense. but i cant figure out how traffic couldve exploded like this. again, 20,000 targeted impressions have to amount to someone remembering the url enough to type it. by the way i checked the analytics on it and the increase is due to direct traffic. in addition the most viewed pages are the about us/contact us and the general products/services indicating that there is interest about the client. do you get a visit count if the google adwords spider comes to check the landing page? highly unlikely for this client since again, the traffic is hitting the main homepage and there are no adgroups pointing to the homepage, only the displayed url in the ads. any other possibilities? any experiences?
i found a source that is more likely to be contributing to the sudden jolts! apparently one of the heads was promoting on the radio with millions of listeners. this would explain the high bounce rate, but man it was hitting over 5X normal some days! these along with adwords should give the site a nice kick to hopefully stabilize hits in the thousands. cha-ching!
