So there's this sports tournament, held regularly, with an official website. But this website is very limited, allows very little interactivity, provides basic info and news only. I was considering blogging about the tournament, publishing news, setting up a forum, which I believe is needed, all done unofficially. The question is what can I do and what can I not do? Starting from the domain name, ad example. i was thinking about an acronym. And can I do all the above? Can I mention teams, players, coaches, captains, referees, organizers, etc.? Thanks for any help and suggestions!
Anyone any views at all? I'm sure it's a situation many others have come across, at some point... Thanks!
Thanks logylaps for your suggestion! So you believe that there are no possible issues? I don't think so, but I am just double checking. The only problem is where is the line, after which I would certainly infringe break some rules...
Thanks again! But my concern wasn't for offending content, at least in the sense of content that is insulting, etc. Th point is if I can freely get inspiration by the event, use names available on thir website, etc. Thanks to anybody that can give me a hand to figure it out!
I'd go for it and get in touch with them. They obviously coulndt be bothered with some aspects of the site and you are picking up the slack. They may even link to you.
I can't say about the UK, but in the US facts are not subject to copyright. So to say Team X won 5 to 2 over Team Y is not a violation. Using team logos could be seen as infringement.
So no issues with reported facts. Issues if I use (but I won't) logos. What about names (of players, managers, teams, etc)? I suppose that if they are part of the facts, there shouldn't be any issues. And anything else? Thanks
It's funny that you all looking at selling the site even before starting it, but I guess I'll keep that in mind as an option. Thanks!
