Posting problems in wordpress

    Hi all
Right - I've edited a post in my blog 12 times already and it still isn't right - grrr!

I started off by cutting and pasting from from word. The post is basically an article with various pictures that I want centred. The first thing I noticed is that unlike working on my machine locally I can't seem to add pictures by simply going to the add picture icon and entering the url. That didn't seem to work. So I did the file upload thing with the picture (the bit beneath the write post section) and centred it that way.

The problem the first time was that I noticed I'm missed centering one. I went back to edit it and saved. I looked at the post again, now that picture is correct but another one has gone out of alignment and some of the text has got spaces added where it shouldn't have.

So I go back and edit again and again - getting the same problems each time.
I can't work on the code instead of just visual because there's an error on my page when it loads in explorer so the code tab doesn't work.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

Oh and now it's not letting me edit it at all. If I click save after editing it just comes up with a warning box saving 'navigating away from this page will lose changes...'

By any chance do you have corrupt files in WP?
Have you tried Firefox? WP has no compatibility issues with IE either, but Firefox works best.

Also, there's a bit hard to analyze the issue by the details you're giving me. I would need to have a look in your WP-Admin (with your permission).

    Hi Etherfast
I'm not sure if it's corrupt or not. To find my way around it I completely deleted the post and then posted it again. I noticed that when I did this I could access both the 'code' and 'visual' tabs and there wasn't an error on the page. I haven't dared go back and edit this one (simply because it takes so long to sort it out again) however I just posted a test post and didn't have any problems editing that or using the code view.
Perhaps I had just tried to edit it one to many times and it got really messed up.
I do wish the simple 'add picture' would work though. That would just be a lot quicker.

wp's wysiwyg editior has some problems when it comes to layout.

If all else fails turn off the rich text editor and manually format that post. Then turn it back on after you've finished.

I struggled with adding pictures in Wordpress for months and could never do it. Finally found this plugin:

    http://www.copperleaf.org/projects/copperleaf-photo-log-plugin

And it works like a charm. I can add pictures now!

As far as your browser issues, I discovered last week after messing around with my user agent string that wordpress doesn't work well. So if you've recently messed with that, that might be a reason for your wordpress issues.

SpringCypress - how do I manually turn off the rich text editor?
Flawebworks - ooh that sounds great - thanks for the link!

Another good idea would be to find a site that formats your docs/pdfs (or whichever format is used) into HTML. Do a Google search - I hope this all helps you.

    Hi MarketingGuru
I was thinking that to save time.
I did do it in Dreamweaver but whilst I know HTML (reasonably) I don't really know CSS so it didn't seem to work (it just removed all the links and most of the formatting). It all looks fine now but it took a whole lot longer than I'd like to sort it out!

Oh aside from the whole issue of the fonts being different in the two posts and between the pages - ho hum, another thing to figure out *laughs*

Oops, I completely forgot to add to what I said...format the post in HTML in the wordpress post area. If you place the html/code from dreamweaver into that area, the format will stay intact. I completely forgot to add that.

Ok - I'll try that next time. Gosh I can't wait until I have all these little bits and pieces resolved and I know my way around wordpress well so I can get on with actually writing!

I think the basis of your problem is word....when you cut and paste out of word it takes a lot of code with it besides the plain text.

I never go directly from word to wordpress but paste it in notepad first and copy it from there into wordpress it will save you a lot of time trying to correct what MS thinks it should look like

    Thanks Edynas
I think I'm going to have to keep fiddling with it to find out what works best - I will try that too.

DO not use MS Word to edit for Word Press.
I used to have the same problem and the fonts come out all screwy, and the paragraphs don't separate correctly.
    It's a nightmare.
You are better off just using plain old Note Pad, and changing your font's on the style sheets.
