What niche ? Might be easier to give some advice if we knew. Otherwise, we'll just spew generic drivel like "try message boards", "create a blog for the niche", etc.
haha alright. its for Coin Collecting, which I would think would be more popular, but the blogs I've seen have had very little to no comments.
http://www.coinclub.com/rates.html $250/year for a text link. Youch. Yahoo! directory seemed to have some good pointers to other sites.
alright thanks, I'll check that out. Yeah, that is expensive. Funny too, how it's not one of the Top 3 grading companies either. One of the most popular ones, PCGS, has this: http://www.pcgs.com/resource_linking.chtml which looks like, if they accept, its a simple trade.
If you can't find something on that niche then just try getting as many links on other niche. It could help as long as it is a dofollow blog.
Or try blogs that cater to the same audience that is interested in coin collecting and other collectibles... Antiques Sotheby's Christies's Old people , just joking, I have a coin collection... Good luck!
I would go after other collecting type sites. Also maybe auction blogs would be one way to get links.
If your niche is limited in scope, try and network through associations you may belong to, or perhaps forego the blog posting in favor of other link building ideas such as social bookmarking, article marketing. Try a few different things and see what works for you.
In another niche? Might as well just say any link is a link, so just get them all. OH and make sure they are dofollow. Well, I say bullocks to it all! The follow status of a link is actually rather moot in most cases. yeah, Google will not pass along PR but it does follow the link for indexing. Humans also follow nofollow links, and in the end it's human traffic you want. By limiting yourself to only dofollow links can limit you right out of a nofollow link that gets 10,000 unique a day! Look up in the top right of this page, that google ad is nofollow. How many folks ya think click on them to get Shawn a few k's a month? As for the niche, keep it on key for best results. If there are no good blogs, then that mean even the best suck, so heh, post to them all! Better yet, WRITE A GOOD BLOG on the topic. Heh, that'll make people want to link to you... now how cool is that? If you are going to get off your niche, then yes, related niches are the best. Alternatively, look around for popular general blogs owned by coin collectors. A post about this or that coin could get you a link should you have valuable input on such a specific topic. I have a PR3 blog that has at least two posts about coins. I have a strange Dime collection, and a handful of Indian head pennies, but am FAR from a collector. Yeah, yeah, a PR3 is not all that great, but *shrug* It was a PR5 before I stopped posting it in for the most part. I'm sure there are other top bloggers out there with a few precious coins they would love to talk about. Look for those! While the blog itself may not be dead on, the comment/entry will be.
All great advice. You can also drive traffic and build back links using social marketing. Check this site out for some great videos on using social marketing to promote your website. Go here http://www.SocialTrafficExplosionTrainingVideos.com

very true guys, very true. Perhaps I could have a blog section of the website. Thanks for your help all -oh, and I like the idea of posting in related blogs, like antiques and other collectibles
I use some software called Fast Blog Finder. You can download a free version or buy the Gold version for a little money. It gathers relevent blogs related to your keywords, and tells you whether the links are nofollow or dofollow, what PR the blog is,what PR the page is and how many outbound links etc the blog has etc. It also logs each and ever blog post you make making it easy for you to track your blog commenting.
