POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK: How is it possible?

i got an email yesterday alerting me about the worst virus ever! it is called POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK. Here is the copy paste of that email.

    Do not open
any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM
HALLMARK,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus
which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard
disc C drive of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail
address on his/her contact list. That is the reason why you
need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better
to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus
    and open it!

If you receive an email called' POSTCARD,' even if it is
sent to you by a frien*d, do not open it! Shut down your
computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by
    CNN.

how is it possible that an email burn your hard drive?

The user's browser would have to have some severe security vulnerabilities in order for something like this to happen... I haven't heard about this yet but I'll keep it in mind, although I'm inclined to believe this is yet another one of those hoax email scares.

As far as I know no permanent damage will occur if you get damage.

Just want to re-say... many computer users are afraid that downloaking something will cause permanent expensive damage to their computer and they spend good money for it. No permanent damage will occur...

This is a software problem and not a hardware problem. Yes time and headaches, but it can all be put back to normal, the way it was before this happened. Don't get discouraged. So much to learn.
