Post your favorite "FREE" Software Scripts :)

I was wondering what everyone's favorite Software Scripts is. Right now I'm a big fan of phpbb 3.0 please if you can post a link to where we can see the Developers demo, "not your demo" If the script is available free for download post it as well.

Wordpress and Joomla are my current favs.

 

Word press is cool. I've always liked how they kept everything so simple. Joomla on the other hand can get very in depth and specific. I must agree 2 very good picks !

 

For its 'niche', I would have to say that the Mantis bug tracker ( www.mantisbt.org ) is one of my favourites, too.

 

So what would this be for, maybe for developers to keep track of "Bugs"

 

On one of my sites I am currently using mkportal (www.mkportal.it) with SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) to run a community forum for my friends, and they work great. Very admin and user friendly.

another favorite of mine is b2evolution blogging software.

 

http://www.mkportal.it/ is new to me so many thanks for this link! I'm not a big fan of the smf, I actualy think the admin cp is very poor compared to other forums I've seen. b2evolution is a really nice blogging system I have to agree as well.

 

You will see from the mkportal website that the portal interfaces with other forum software as well - phpBB, IPB, Vbulletin, etc, so that's a plus.

I use b2evo for my blog on one of my websites and I like it a lot.

 

phpbb3 is pretty nice. I'm using it as a CMS for a new site I just finished that's based around the forum. My next favorite would have to be Joomla because of its flexibility.

 

I put my vote in for drupal!!!

not so great on the forum part, but excellent for news aggregators, rss, multiple blogs, and sorting blog content into categories

 

This might be a silly question, but how do use phpbb as a CMS? I thought it was only for forum setup?

 

I may be using the term CMS a little loosely, but that's how I think of it. The main page for the site pulls posts from a special forum that only I can post in but anyone can reply to. When I make a new post, the front page items automatically update so keeping the site current is as simple as posting. I also made a few custom bbcodes so I could do things like use thumbnail icons for each item right in the post. You can see for yourself at globalwhat.com. I think the setup would be ideal for a blog, but I'm using it as a way for people to discuss the posts.

That's exactly what it's for. I have my Mantis installation public facing with some projects open to all (my free software, for example) as well as a number of private projects for my various clients: each client job is set up as a separate project so I can track them all that way and no one client can see any other one, either.

 

I just started using wordpress recently, but I love it, def my favorite

 

Another nice blog system I found in my search for open source was boast machine. When I first installed this demo on my site I couldn’t believe how nice the layout was. I’m not too sure how it is as a cms because I don’t have much experience in cms but it looks like word press kind of so it might be pretty easy.

I’m not too sure if it’s a great cms script BUT the html files are really easily edited to make it have some ads. The available portal systems for phpbb 3.0 are out of this word, “as in really nice”

Yes wordpress is a very nice script and way too easy to install, great for CMS

 

Gallery2 for photos
SMF for forum
Wordpress for blogs

 

Gallery 2 isn't too bad but I don't personally like ANY of the open source scripts for Photo Galleries that are available. I have 2 demo scripts at my site and I wouldn't recommend either. As for SMF I’m also not a big fan of that as well. I think the admin cp is very pre mature for its lengthy existence on the market. They did a major overhaul in the back office section. And again wordpress is a very nice script. I like how they have so many themes…

 

Drupal. While there is definitely a learning curve for new users, it's the most flexible CMS I've found. Just about anything can be done using the many modules that are available. Plus, using modules means you don't have to customize core files which makes for much easier upgrades.
