I pretty much have them spread out across different domains. Sometimes I just get this sudden urge to add and/or create something, and whatever domain I am in, I will just start coding from scratch and that's where it will reside.
I know this is an old thread, but I just couldn't resist posting. I thought my alexa rank of 297,000 for My Searchplace was really something special, but looking at you guys I think I might hide it again!
I wouldn't pay any attention to alexa its only useful as a gauge of what other directory owners visit your sites as they are the only ones stupid enough to install their toolbar. About as trustworthy as a politician.
My best rank is 102,179. The one that makes me the most money is 172,490. Add your directory to my directory list and you can see what "value rating" your directory has based on PR, Alexa, and Price.
For the most part this is true. However, I use the alexa rating as a starting point to find directories that will generate traffic for me. Take a list of high Alexa sites then go to the page where you'll be listed. Check google for its title, description, h1 tags, etc. If they come up in the first 20 results you'll get some traffic from these directories.
For the whole part its true. Pointing to directories that have high alexa is a fools game, stealing someone else's words, alexa traffic is vanity, conversion is sanity. Alexa traffic does not convert to custom, certainly not in my experience, so it is thus worthless. Thanks for the pointers on seo of a page, I am aware of it though.
Never agreed with this Alexa and PR rubbish, I mean who honestly gives a rats behind. The searchers? I say no. As soon as I found out Alexa was useless, I concentrated on getting on-target links, and now my traffic is doing nicely with over 1 million users each year. I take that over inaccurate rankings anyday of the week.
