Hello all, Could someone please tell me how on-page optimization works with google now? My site used to be at the top of the first page of google ranks for its keywords 'mario bros'. Despite all the link building (quality, decent links) - updates of thorough and original content - removal of duplicate metas, titles etc with the help of sh404sef (its a joomla site) and increasing our social signals a LOT, improved page loadtimes dramatically, optimized images etc - we arent even getting ranked in the first 20 results pages. The pages are indexed, but they are so low down its unbelievable. 90% of the sites above us dont even really relate to the subject matter. So all I can conclude is that the onpage optimization at www.themariobros.net (main page targets "mario bros" as a keyphrase) must be REALLY bad Could anyone give me any advice on what I can do to improve it? :-/ I've been trying to recover my ranks for well over a year now, with a lot of hard work, and have achieved nothing :/ Pls help
Where are you ranking now? Know the position and start building natural links, if it is improving then maintain the flow and keep working in the same way. You should focus on content creation within your website too.

Update your site with latest content, try to change home page content, insert less keywords in your content and for link building keep changing varying anchor text.
