I am confused and lost. My website use to be on page one of Google.com and Google.co.uk for my main keyword ‘Mount Everest’. Since the Panda and Penquin updates my website has disappeared off the first page. I have read that it could be due to the keywords I use to link back to my website. Whenever I submit to a directory, ask for a link or do reciprocal linking I always use my websites title ‘Mount Everest The British Story’ as the linked text. I take it this is wrong and why I have been penalised, if so, what do I need to do to get my first page place back? Thank you.
You may lost your ranking for the following reasons - 1. Aggressive exact-match anchor text, and/or 2. Overuse of exact-match domains, and/or 3. Low-quality article marketing & blog spam, and/or 4. Keyword stuffing in internal/outbound links
I have heard from many of the people that after the penguin update their site getting penalised badly, and get their site ranking dropped from page 1 to page 10 or more. And as i have read an article about the penguin change and they have mention that this change has all been made on the base of on page factors. And i have also found such sites which contains the unique and useful content but not have the better structure and have lacks from the on page point of view or not develop properly using guidelines, have been penalised by this update. So now you need to do is to analyse your site from panda and penguin both point of view and do work as per that. This means provide quality content with appropriate keywords and meta title on the page and with many other points.
Where are you ranked now then? Was it a bad hit for your keyword, or just second and third page? How does your backlinks count compare to others in the top spot? It doesn't strike me as an overly competitive keyword so I'm guessing a few links either way and a slight algo change and you could drop to the second page quite easily.
For my main keyword ‘Mount Everest’ I am now on page 2 of Google.com and co.uk According to SEOprofiler I have 1,922 backlinks. My 3 competitors who are on page 1 have 9,002 – 5,425 and 11,190 backlinks.
Being penalized, there is very small possibility of getting the previous position back. Lots of websites which were disappeared just after launching penguin got position again automatically after few days. As you have already got the position back in 2nd page, again start SEO for coming in the first page.
When you submit anchor text on directories so you should use keyword randomly . Don't use same keyword on all directories. in this way your website obvious will be penalized. Now submit reconsideration request to Google .
Not as related to Penguin update, but you need to drastically speed up your pages load time. Load time is def a factor that Google looks at. hth
Good points, to get back to the top ten you may start your link building again with a new SEO strategy, I'm sure you'll be able to do it in a short time.
That is a pretty bad penalty. I wasn't punished that badly but I dont always use exact match for anchor text this must be the big difference. Vary it up a bit.
Well I don't think its a penalty its just Algorithm of Google has been updated and you lack some quality backlinks and social signals hence ranked lower in SERP's
