Post 'hello world' removed but still shows in archive - how to remove

Hi
The title says it all really. I only just noticed that my hello world plus 3 other test posts are listed on my sidebar where the archive is and I can't seem to remove them. Is there a way of doing this - the post itself has been deleted.
Do you know of an archive widget that you have some control over?

Oh ignore me - it's somehow in the RSS feed - I'm going to change that anyway!
