Post Amazom Associates links in Google Adwords?

Discussion in 'Amazon' started by FofR, Nov 6, 2006.

I am just checking the legality and agreement with TOS of doing this. I could not find anything with regards to this in the Amazon Associates help section, though I managed to confirm that Google Adwords allows affiliate advertising.

e.g. a link to a product, where I pay for the ads.

edit: Sorry I spelt Amazon wrong. That's a good way to start my posting career.

FofR, this is not a problem -- lots of Amazon Associates bid on AdWords to promote Amazon products.

Thank you. Do you know if these links must state that they are from associates?

If you are using your Amazon Associates id as part of the link, it'll be obvious to Amazon that it's an associate link.

    Good luck!

You used to have to speficy it was an Affiliate link but Google changed the rules, now they only display one Ad per search to any domain name.

If you and someone else are both sending someone directly to Amazon, you will be competiting for the Ad. Google will only show one Ad pointing to Amazon per search.

aStores are nasty, they look so unprofessional, i would just create a really basic site that looks half decent instead.

Also, in reference to the amazon links in adwords, you would have to put the display url as www.amazon.com,
so you would be directly competing with amazons adwords campains, i dont think that they will like that very much.
    but worth a try ;)

You get 4+ % per sale depending on the type of product you sell and the total number of products you sold for the period

BTW: Out of 100 visitors I sent to my astore from AdWords exactly 0 made a purchase...

    go figure

My aStore is doing very well. It has to match the content of your site and offer readers products that closely match their interests.

My aStore offers readers additional products on the topic of affiliate marketing, search engine optimization, and working with Google, all of which are topics of my blog.

You can take a look at my aStore in two ways:

    1. As a blog post.
    2. As a stand-alone store on Amazon.com.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Maybe your not targeting good keywords or need to tweak your ad. I've had great luck sending visitors and getting conversions for sending people directly to my aStore.

I know they don't look good, but I have 3 stores that seem to be converting just fine. However, it does take some trial and error to see what works best.

I created my aStore as an iframe on my own domain and targetted specifically to poker players and related gifts. I use google adwords for most of the traffic and while poker related keywords aren't the cheapest I've gotten about a 25% conversion rate. I am guessing that will drop off substantially after the holidays so I'll have to find a less expense way to promote the site but for the time being it's making a little money anyway.

And yes, it's not pretty but it's working... you can check it out here if you would like.

Yeah the Amazonian King that makes over $100,000 a year in Amazon uses that technique very effectively.

The key is the ads and the landing pages.

Just do not use the word "Amazon" as an advertising keyword for your site, else you'll get this email:

    Greetings from the Associates Program.

We recently noticed your Associate links are appearing as sponsored
links on search engines under the term amazon and variations of
this term. Please note, per the Operating Agreement:

    4. Referral Fees
In addition, you may not: Â… (i) seek to purchase or register any
keywords, search terms or other identifiers that include the
word "amazon" or variations thereof (for
example "ammazon", "amaozn", etc.) ("Proprietary Terms") for use in
any search engine, portal, sponsored advertising service or other
search or referral service. From time to time we may request that
you cause any applicable Web search provider to exclude Proprietary
Terms from keywords used to display your advertising content in
association with search results, assuming the provider of such Web
search engine offers such exclusion capabilities. If we determine,
in our sole discretion, that you have engaged in any of the
foregoing activities or, as the case may be, refused promptly to
comply with a request from us to exclude Proprietary Terms from any
keyword as mentioned above, we may (without limiting any other
rights or remedies available to us) withhold any referral fees
otherwise payable to you under this Agreement and/or terminate this
    Agreement.

In an effort to protect our trademark, we request that Associates
refrain from this activity and will be enforcing this policy.
Please note that some sponsored advertising services allow
advertisers to indicate that their ads should surface when the
user's search is somewhat related to specified keywords; for
example, an ad placed against the keyword "books" would surface in a
search for "Amazon books. To prevent your links from appearing as a
sponsored link, we also ask that you take preventative measures,
such as adding amazon and/or amazon.com to your negative
    keywords.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and your
cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have
    any questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

    Amazon.com Account Specialist
