Possibly Click-bombed. What to do?

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by Crusader, Aug 1, 2006.

One of my sites got clicked-bombed (at least that's the only explanation for it) by some idiot. The channel I setup for the site shows a CTR of 1,166.67%. No revenue has been generated from the clicks (thankfully), so it seems as if Google spotted it.

I've contacted Adsense using the contact form informing them of this. I have also removed the Adsense ads from the site in question until this is sorted out.

Are there any other steps I need to do to help prevent Adsense from banning me due to the actions of this idiot?

If it really wasn't you or anyone associated with you .. you have nothing to worry about.
I think I might have been click bombed once .. a while ago on one o fmy other sites I no longer run ... and I did nothing and google said nothing.

It's a worrying factor, especially if most of your revenue come from it.

Diversify your revenue, then losing adsense won't be such a heavy blow.

If you have already contacted them and genuinely had nothing to do with the incedent everything should be fine.

Report it to the AdSense Team just in case.

Start re-thinking your ad delivery system to avoid this from happening. PHPAdsNew can help you for free if you're on Apache.

Figure out who you pissed off somewhere in DP (if DP is the only place you have these sigs) and try to see if he's the one sabotaging you. When clickbombs happen, it's usually by someone who knows that you value your Adsense account, and wants to get even with you. What they do is run to your site and just start clicking away, usually on the same ad, because it's easiest. Usually they'll stop after the burst of clicks, as it's one of those irrational "I'm gonna get him back!" moments. Then again, it could just be a random guy, but I doubt that...

I've had this happen to me, and I did what you did as far as informing Google. They sent me a form letter thanking me and that was that, never heard anything else. I think you'll be fine.

I've seen it happen on a site of mine before. Google didn't count the clicks so I just let it go. Sending them a quick note would be a good idea though.

There isn't really a way to throttle the amount of clicks since the guy can just stay on one page and keep clicking the same ad. Or is there some JavaScript solution for this?

Well, I received the traditional canned response from Adsense. They thank me for my input and will be monitoring the situation. Although it doesn't help much, but now I feel a bit safer.

You can also install adlogger to see the ip and ban in from your sites.

Adlogger, although far from perfect is a great tool to help combat the click-bomb. it will show you the ip of exactly who the clicker-was, and (if you set it up right) it can disable ads after a certain number of clicks.. I highly recommend it.. and I know you much you value my opinion..

How do you monitor the amount of clicks without altering the JavaScript code?

Use adlogger. It doesn't edit any adsense code.
