Possibly changing hosting companies.

Will changing hosting companies affect my SE position?

I'm currently hosting my website at one place, but they dont allocate enough bandwidth for me in my monthly plan and I don't want to keep having to pay $10 - $15 a month for extra bandwidth. That's more than what my hosting plan costs per month.

So I was thinking of switching hosting companies for my site, but am wondering if it will affect my rankings as I'd probably be on a new IP and what not.

    Any insites on this?

If you make a quick change over, it is unlikely to make much difference (maybe a place or three) but if something goes wrong and your site is down for more than a week then it will adversely affect your rankings proportionate to however long your site remains down.

I understand that if it's down for a long period of time what may happen.

I plan on keeping the current hosting for another wesite and gt the other hosting for the one using up all the traffic. So there shouldn't be any down time there.

There will probably be some downtime when you change the nameservers to your new host.
