like the title says, is it possible to run a business with the .name extension? or is there some taboo in this area?

and more to the point would it ever turn up in SERP's?

    thanks in adv
    James.

I don't it's a good idea to use .name domain's for business purposes.
Biz domains are better IMHO.Anyways my first choice would be .com's,always.

Legally speaking, there is no restriction as far as I know but the .name TLD seems to be more for personal sites rather than business site. However, if it meets your needs, why not.

    Possible yes.

But the better question is why? When a .com cost just a few dollars or some other top level domain.

Ya but sometimes you won't find the domain ur looking for in other's .com/.net

So a dot. name is better then not getting the domain you want. :)

Not for me. I can't think of any reason I would use a .name just because the .com was taken. There are so many names, so many combinations, for a "business" why would you want to be 4th or 5th fiddle with a .name. There are 4 letter .coms for sale here all the time, just name your business to match!

If you get a .name domain name, it may not stick in the mind of your visitors and you may lose traffic to the .com site.

A .name domain doesn't sound very professional for a business. Like others said, try other combinations and go for .com or at least .net.

I haven't seen a decent company using .name, not even recents .name domain sales.

    It's a worthless extension.
