Possible to Leverage Your User Database to Assist Adsense in Serving more Precise Ads

Warning: I'm a complete newbie to Adsense, and only know what I've read in the general help documents and a hand full of forum posts.

I have an online community that is based around the study of language. When users sign up for a free account, they provide a variety of demographic information and indicate some of their interests and hobbies. I am debating whether using Adsense is a good fit for my site. The general Adsense help articles indicate that the media crawler looks at a page's content, and based on this determines which ads should be displayed. Needless to say, my users have an interest in language study, that's why they (presumably) use the site. I am confident that ads relevant to language will appear without issue on my site. However, I would like to leverage the data I have about a user's interests as well. I could easily pull the data from the database and display it somewhere on the website and place it within an Adsense section target. However, this solution is less than desirable from an aesthetic perspective, and may even go against the terms of use (anyone know if it does?). Equally taboo, I assume, would be to place this content onto the webpage as hidden text.

Ideally, I would be able to somehow use the user information in my database to say, "Hey, Adsense, here is a user that has interests in X, Y and Z in addition to the language they're studying for. Show them ads for that stuff too!" every time a page is loaded.

Does anyone out there know if Google has a 'Best Practice' for achieving this sort of thing? Is it possible to use the wealth of information that I already have at my finger tips about my user base to assist Google in targeting their ads (it goes without saying that I want to do so in a way that adheres to the Adsense's terms and conditions)? If it is possible, where might I look to find out how I could implement Adsense in this way. You time and guidance is much appreciated, thank you.
