I've been working hard to get some of my sites on first page in google for their keywords and finally succeeded. Im placed first for some of the sites but youtube links is always shown before my sites. Is there anyway to beat those youtube links, or is it part of googles strategy to promote youtube ? As an example try to search for Madonna video It seems google always show 2 youtube videos before any site links. Anyone else experienced the same ? or is it possible to beat the youtube ranking ?
Google has an interest in promoting Youtube since it owns it. Is it a link to Youtube's homepage, or a Youtube video, in the search results? If it's a video than one strategy is to create your own video, targeting the keyphrase you're after, and uploading it to Youtube to try and have your video replace the one that comes up for the phrase you're interested in. In the description of the video you upload put a link to your site. The link will be nofollowed, but depending on the phrase it may bring traffic to your site.
The reason it's showing up before yours is probably due to one of the two reasons below... 1. The video\web page is more relevant than yours to the search term. 2. The video\web page has more quality backlinks than yours does.
Are we talking mixed search results (i.e. a video you can play in the search page), or normal results? Its going to be tough to beat out a OneBox result if Google thinks video is relevant. They're really pushing their vertical search. I have seen video results appearing in the middle of SERPs, but I have no idea what triggers this and it seems quite intentional, in other words a new search format they are experimenting with vs ranking content.
I have lots of quality back links, Im placed "first" (third if you count the youtube video links) for a very hard keyword. The two first links is direct links to "relevant" youtube videos. Like in this search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=madonna+video&btnG=Search Two youtube videos is shown first. I guess google is just promoting thier youtube site on unfair terms, should sue them ;-)
