I used to have a PR 3 for my site PlayPassGames, but then I changed my site completely and added a script and my PR went down to 1 since my site was down for like 2 weeks while I was installing and updating everything. My question is: Is it possible to rank #1 or even in the top 3 spots for a keyword? I'm not talking about a keyword with literally no competition, maybe a little. I have the #4 rank for the keyword term "BattleGround States 2008 Game" (that's the best position I got). I only have a couple games on my site that are getting on the top few pages of google. Would it help to get a lot of backlinks to the games? How would I go about doing that? I'm only used to promoting my site and not individual games.
Just find the URL of the page with the games and use Digg to advertise them. If it's good, Digg will send you tons of traffic.
I think if you make your way to the top then you'll eventually get some PR back. To get PR google ranks your site, and same with SERPS
My games are not original though. Most of the top games I have on my site are already on digg. Any ideas?
Although PR is important, I rank high on most of the keywords by doing solid OnPage SEO, highly focused keyword Link Text, and a little traffic. You can do the same
i strongly suggest to keep on building quality backlink to your site for you to be able to rank in a variation of keywords.
It sucks though because I have roughly 17,000 backlinks, but I have a PR1 right now. And sites that have like 5,000 backlinks have a PR3 (and they have the same script as me). That must mean my content is terrible. I have to change the meta tags and description tags to be unique. I actually don't know what it is.
Sure, you don't need PR to rank well, I can PM you a site URL that ranks for mild competition keyword without having a PR
PR has nothing to do with your ranking except that inbound links from relevant high PR sites can boost your ranking. I have a PR1 site which outranks many PR5 sites for its main keyword. Build relevant inbound links and update the site on a consistently with unique useful content. You will be fine with the green on toolbar. -Neo
