Possible legal issues with ringtone site?

I'm considering opening a ringtone site seeing as how I've come across a ring-tone maker program. I was hoping to sell them rather cheap; 10 to 50 cents or something like that. Anyways, I was just wondering if there'd be any issues such as copyright?

Depends on what the ringtones are of. If it's of a copyrighted song you need permission from the copyright owner before you can sell/use the ringtone. Hope that helps.

    Ah, thank you.
So even if I bought the song, I assume.

If you buy a CD, you have the right to resell that CD. That's called the "First Sale Doctrine"

If you buy a CD, you do not have the right to copy a song from that CD onto your computer. That violates the copyright holder's rights. If you go as far as making a copy, then making another copy to put on your server, then making ANOTHER copy to each person who buys the ringtone, then you've made a bunch of illegal copies.

However, if you "buy the song" as in, "buy the song and all rights associated" then you can do what you want.
