Possible Google Backdoor, Question

    Hi everyone,

I just read about a method for getting listed in Google sooner which is similar to the Yahoo backdoor when they first added RSS to MyYahoo.

Since you can now create a customized homepage with Google, (this is news to me anyway), you can add RSS feeds to it. So the idea is if you have a blog and add your own RSS feed, Google will then spider your blog and presumably anything linking to it.

But there's a problem - it won't take my feed link. If I enter http://netmarkhome.blogspot.com/atom.xml or just netmarkhome.blogspot.com/atom.xml as it seems to be suggesting, and click on "go", nothing happens.

If anyone has tried this or wants to try it, let me know if you have an idea of what I might be doing wrong.

    Thanks,
    Laurence

I think this should be in the Google forum.

    Of course, thanks.

By the way, to anyone that wants to try this, the personalized page is at
    http://www.google.com/ig

I couldn't see any way to get there without just typing it in.

I assume this service will work like MyYahoo where you have to create an account and log in to see your feeds, right? If so, how will the Googlebot enter your username and password, log into your account and then spider your personal feeds?

I think your first problem is blogspot does not generate RSS feeds. It uses Atom formatted XML.

Hmm, very interesting. I wonder if this does indeed work like you described.

I got mine listed. First time I tried I had that same problem where nothing happened when I hit "go". Tried the next day and it worked just fine. Atom feed is not a problem.

I'm sure google's biggest reason for this service is so they can track feeds (esp. the popular ones). Remember, you're storing all the information on their server. Googlebot doesn't need your password.
