I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this so if it needs to be moved feel free to do so. The house I grew up in, a nice two-story house my parents have been renting for 14 years, is up for sale by the owner in a town where teardowns of older homes are running rampant. I have a bad feeling our home will be snatched up by a developer and will be slated for a teardown. Developers buying anything they can get their hands on and have the money to do so too. I’m not sure if a future will be a developer or a replacement for our current landlord. Our house is one of the few rentals in our village as most of the housing stock is single family owned homes. My parents can’t afford the price tag, which is about $500K (and that is a below average for the area) though they don’t want to move away from the area but will be forced to because almost all the homes are out of their price range. They’re looking for homes in surrounding neighborhoods, but most of what they can afford are miles and miles away from where they work (Chicagoland suburbs) I’m not asking for donations, although I would accept them (even though it would take a massive fundraising effort for the amount of a down payment needed for the home) Anyone have any advice of what to do? Or similar stories for support?
How bad is your house that its being torn down. Look for foreclosed homes, they are going for .50 cents on the dollar.
it happens man, it was sad to see my grandparents old house years after they sold it, all developed around. it won't be long and their house will be gone too move , you can get a very nice house for 200k here
soniqhost.com, it's not in that bad of condition at all actually. The building is still fully functional. Some developers around here have been tearing down homes that they bought for $1 million and up. I remember hearing about a $12 million dollar teardown a couple blocks away. Many of these homes were updated in the past couple of years before they went on sale but for some reason they didn't suit the "taste' of the new owner. Loco.M, they're thinking of moving. They don't want to move but the character of the neighborhood is changing at such a fast pace it's not like it used to be. Plus, property taxes are increasing. What area do you live in? I'll check it out.
