In the relatively short time I've been using Adwords, my experience seems to be that when I activate position preferences, I typically get fewer clicks and better CTR. If I accept any ad position, the result seems to be poor CTR, which causes me to pay more... In other words, position preferences seem to be worth it, since it directly affects CTR. Would any of you veterans agree with this?
Most definitely. I always tell people not to necessarily go for top position because although it will get you a ton of expensive traffic, it won't necessarily get you conversions.
