For my website Man Utd Fan, I have not even started seo and all, but when i go to yahoo and type only "man utd" a very competive search term, it shows up on the first page after the official site and bbc. How is this possible? Also, can someone confirm this, please type in "man utd" in yahoo and check if manutd-fan.com is the 4th or 5th site. Also, anyone has any ideas as to why
Can't see it anywhere on the first page mate, both in Yahoo UK and Yahoo US I am a bit blind though lol. Usually a new website will be given a temporary boost in the rankings, but thats usually short lived, but if you are up there, at least you can experience what kind of traffic you can hope for in the future Edit - I see you now on the bottom of page 2 in Yahoo US
Keywords are among the important factors. However I also found out that having a good link or 2 from sites with high PR helps your site ranks high. In the top 3 rank. p/s-You can also a serp tool to check auto.
Just bookmark your site once or twice a day along with writing a couple of articles a week and you will rise in the serp for the keywords you are targeting. as long as you keep consistent you will start to see some changes
Yeah I see you near the bottom of page #2 on Yahoo US as well. You may have gotten there just based on your domain name and the 5 links that Yahoo found pointing to your website. I suspect that a lot of your competitors would go after 'manchester united' or 'man united' instead of 'man utd'. So you may be able to get back to page #1 without much work. Do as Anthony suggested and start submitting articles and building links other ways. Keep in mind that Yahoo likes exact phrases to be used as link anchor text. So instead of using 'man utd fan' for all of your links, use 'man utd' for some of them. Vary your link anchor text to target several keyword phrases at the same time.
Ignorance at it's finest. If Google is all he uses, it must be the only search engine that everyone uses. Shouldn't you be hanging out in the Google topic praising Google instead?
if your keyword in your domain then it will rank definately - only seo basic activities required for that
