Wonder if anyone can shed some light on this, I have been ranking on page 1 for an extremeley competetive keyword with my inner page for the last 6 months or so. Then suddenly my page is on page 5 and my home page has appeared on page 2.

    Why would this happen?

It still ranks on page 1 for some other less competetive keywords, could it be I overused the same keyword too many times and how do I get it to come back

What steps did you do with the site recently?

We bought a few new options?
    Any content changes?

You can check if you have been the link my Google, or you have recent done something to improve the site, which is affecting your ranking.

what do the pages ranking above yours have that your page doesn't? What keywords are they using that is drawing people to them and not you? If your website is about white gold for instance, make sure that you have a lot of backlinks with this keyword in it, or keywords relating to sub-pages on your website.

same fluctuation effect on few of my website, make me worry at the beginning.
rather than spend time checking the rank, i choose to write more content for my site, and make it better.
guess, other sites are working harder than me, time to chase back :)

First of all if your keyword search kept your site on the first page of google for SIX months, that means you have been doing your backlinking and SEO work perfect. However if it has gone down the 5th pages, which also means its time to change your SEO and backlinking startegies. As more and more new strategies come up online, everyday, we just have to get ourselves updated for all kind of strategies.

I myself go around all the SEO forums as well as yahoo and google answers to get the latest and smartest news :)
