That is because "big" countries hate to see "small " nations win. I think their egos get hurt....Portugal made an excellent world cup, I am yet to see any football team who does not commit faults.

Go portugal. People tend to follow the common opinion, most people who hate portugal have only watched one or two games and read some lying news about its players and BANG! lets all hate portugal! start thinking with your own heads. Too bad if people have hate in their hearts ...too bad if the "world" hates people they dont even know ....Every tem fakes. every single one of them. the portuguese players were constantly assaulted and they just reacted.

Good job Media for making people hate an honest nation.

You've seen yesterday if C Ronaldo cares about that...
He played really well, i wish he was booed like that every single game! :D

Portugal, or should i say C Ronaldo, is hated cause of the lousy british media, but i can acept that...You guys were f*cked by us..Twice! You should be very mad and you should make something up, so that your country hates us as an excuse for your poor play in the WC.

It's kind of sad, but it's sports...England is a great country, very rich...But in football not always the big countries win.

Portugal missed the chance of going to a final but it was no easy match for France like some said it was going to be...In fact, Portugal played a bit better, unfortunately we miss the draw...
    It's life! :)

That's rubbis, people love it when a small team does well fairly. Look how people gor behind Greece against you guys, Cameroon in 1990 and S.Korea and Japan in the last world cup. It's not a small team people don't like, it's cheating.

It's not over the last couple of games. Portuguese players have such a replutation for being divers. I watch Ronaldo in the Premiership week in week out and he's always going down with no contact. When Porto won against Man Utd, I hate Man Utd and was chearing for Porto, I finished the game chearing for the English team as I was so sick because of Porto's diving. It's not just the last couple of games, it's the last few years - at least. Yes every team has it's divers, Portual seems to have 11 of them doing it constantly.

That might be true if it was just the English that hated it, but it's all over Europe.

Just like when Greece won 2 years back? Come on, that is just nonsense.

And Jarod, yesterday there weren't many Brits in the stadium so I don't think the booing is down to the British media. Every country has their own opinion and they so happen to almost all think the same about Portugal. Heck, I watched England Portugal with a girl from Scotland (they hate England when it comes to Football) and even she hated Portugal more than England. Same with a Welsh chap I know.

Portugal have blown what was left of their reputation.

I agree with MattUK on this.

I played Football myself for 16 years, I'm not even British, don't like the French either so me thinks I have a fairly objective and qualified view on this matter.

Ronaldo was one of the most hated players in the Premiership 2 months ago and the World Cup has just reinforced the fact. Some of the dives last night were appalling.

LOL, I've not seen that one before! The scary thing is I can see that coming true when they get back to training.

There is no way Ronaldo will set foot at Old Trafford again. He will be at Madrid within the month.

T0PS3O there were many british yesterday, some portuguese report said that but either way, i'm saying that the british press influenced not just the UK, but all Europe...
The french press AND the french plays before the game were doing the same. That's definately an referee influence, but ok...

I've agreed with you guys about the Ronaldo dives 100000's of times, i'm portuguese and also played football since i was 10 or 11 years old, i'm 24 now, and i HATE when he does that.
    What can i do? Nothing!
I just can repeat myself...Ronaldo dived a lot, the other portuguese dived HAS MUCH as other countries players, but Portugal didn't get ANYTHING from that dives...
No direct result influence, just one or two midfield fouls...

If you want to hate us, ok be my guest!
    I just couldn't care less! :)

Cristiano Ronaldo with Fabio Capello:D .But I wonder at what price will he go. United did not buy him cheap and will not let him go for peanuts.

If he goes , United will have to hunt for a winger.Glazerboy will have to loosen his pockets;)

Even if they keep him he wouldn't play. The hassle he would get from the fans is not worth it.

How is that possible? I don't think many people in other countries read British newspapers. I think it's passing the blame saying Portugal are unpopular because of the British press. They're unpopular because they cheat.

I thought you said you can't influence a referee? ;)

No, it's obviously not your fault, but you must be able to appreciate why they're unpopular in many peoples eyes?

I can't see it either, remember the stick that Beckham got after he got sent off? Times that by 100, even Man Utd supporters have turned against him. If he does play, which is unlikely he'll begetting booed by both sets of fans.

He'll probably go to Real, though Real obviously now now that Man Utd are having their hand forced and that's bound to knock a few quid off the selling price. They'll probably get 10-15M for him, he's probably worth 20+

    Not true wanna know why?
Cause every country does the same, but people only look at portuguese ones.
And that is totally unfair IMO .

Don't try to twist my words, i said that regarding that Rooney red card and i STILL think one player in the field can't influence the referee to give an red card to another.

I think is unfair for the team and for the country. It's definately fair for Ronaldo!

And that Ronaldo hijacked is another thing...LOL, by hijacking votes against him you're assuming that is really the best young player...
Even if he doesn't win! ;)

edit "He was roundly booed every time he touched the ball, with a sizeable contingent of England fans in the crowd leading the way."
I guess there were lots of british there after all...
