Port 80 Installation issues...

    Hi All,

I am new to home web servers, and have finally gotten Apache, PHP, and MySQL up and running (and working to the best of my knowledge). Having read countless articles on the process before committing to getting it setup, one advised that in order to provide better security for my system, I should close port 80 to incoming traffic as I am only using the server to view PHP and MySQL stuff at home. All said and done, my system seemed to accept the exception in the Windows Firewall, and la-de-da.

Last night I tried to install a trial version of Adobe CS5.5 and the installer just sits there, not moving with no progress, although still responding. I have never had installation problems of any kind and have had previous Adobe products on my system with no hiccups. I am running Windows 7 x64 Home Edition. Before I start chatting with the Adobe folk about the problem, I wanted to check if maybe someone here was aware of what in the server installation could have messed with this process. I'm a little out of my comfort zone.

What exactly are my security concerns when running Apache on port 80 and what is the best way to secure my system against them??

    Cheers,

    Mike

PS. I am also using Ad-Aware software on the system, but I have tried installing with the Live Expert disabled.

    Hello,

this issue should not be related to your firewall unless a remote licence server tries to communicate with your server. In that case, I guess the communication should be outgoing, ie from your server to the licence server causing no issue.
Try to disable the firewall during the installation; once completed, enable the firewall.

    Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I resolved the issue with the installation, it was actually a corrupted installer. A re-download resolved the issue and, like you said, I stopped my firewall and my anti-virus and installed with no further problems.

    Cheers!
