Ok, so I got your attention :)

On a serious note, what stops someone posting thousands of one way links to your site from porn sites and will this change your rankings in google? Will it do any harm? I would presume no? And if the answer is no could it do any good? Hundreds of easy one way links?

I would presume google has tried there best to prevent malicious damage from company competitors?

I tried to look back in previous post history on digitalpoint about this but didn’t find anything, sorry if this is a repeat post!

Think what you are seeing is referrer span in your logs. If you look at your list of referrers it appears that you have links from questionable sites. My advice is do not post your stats.

Do a search for referrer spam.

No, I think he's concerned about sabotage - or else planning to sabotage someone.

Google doesn't penalise for links from a bad neighbourhood, just for links TO

I can not see it hurting you. If it did everyone would do it to their competitors.

It may not help you, but it will not hurt you at the same time.

It would not hurt your site.

However lets say a bunch of website owners got together and added a link to a given site and used the words “Miserable Failure” as the anchor text.

Technically it would not damage the site however if people went to Google and typed in the words Miserable Failure they would get results like this

Now that would be quote the bomb!
