Do porn star domain names convert well? Are there any trademark or legal issues involved with purchasing those types of domains?
Hmm, if i were you i would have sntched .COM's only. but i dont know any porn star names, but yes it will be under some trademark for sure
I don't know much about legal issues but I doubt pornstars would make a big deal over trademark issues.
Anjolina Jolie (sorry bad spelling) recently sued a french perfume maker for using his sons name as the perfume. but the legal case was then dismissed by Jolie as the perfume maker claimed he wasnt inspired by her child's name (she is not a porn star)
Well I can understand big stars like her doing it. But do pornstars really have as much to spend on lawyers as top company's and A-list celebrities?
Chances are they've already got the domain name for themselves. But if it were www.pornstarnameblog.com or www.pornstarname.com then the sponsor (the business responsible for the paysite) wouldn't mind all that much if you were actually promoting the site.
The porn star is just breaking out on the scene. Only the .com is registered. Is there any value in the .net, .org, or .info? I was thinking about just picking up the .net and squatting it or developing it... Hmm...
I wouldn't say *just*... the industry is huge. And why squat it? For what purpose? If it's to get get money from the pornstar herself it will only get you in trouble, or... you'll be waiting around for a long time for no reward. To develop it would be the only reasonable route to take. As as I said, if you make it into a site which promotes the affiliate program they will probably not mind. And you'll make money.
If the porn star has already got the .com and you buy one of the other ext's to "Cyber Squat" then you are going to be swimming in dangerous waters!
Alright. No squatting. You know, I might just pick this up and play around with it. I haven't done anything in adult, but it has always been interesting (sex and money? who could resist? ). Currently on Google this porn star's name is just filled with a bunch of spam. I think I could rank fairly easily if I worked at it. But my next question is about content. Are there pictures I can legally use? Or is this sort of a grey area? I'm not going to try to monetize it to begin with, but once I do, I'll do what Reprobate suggests and go the affiliate route. But let's say I use the porn star's name in the domain and promote a separate site that distributes her porn videos. Now, I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) porn sites pay her once to appear in a video so there is no benefit for her if a video sells a lot or a little. So if I use her name to promote a site that won't benefit her for the sales it generates, wouldn't there be some motivation to take down my site? I hope that all made sense. :S
I sent you a PM with a link to a... I guess it can be called a tutorial. Or an introduction at least. A brief overview? It depends on a variety of factors. A performer may shoot exclusively for their official site, which they may or may not own. For instance if for whatever reason she decides to leave the business she may still be under contract to the company that does her site. That doesn't mean that she HAS to continue working for them, but they've probably got three years worth of content shot and in the can to be used and maintain the site for however long it will last for. If there's a few links here or there for other non-exclusive content I doubt there'd be much of an issue, but if you used free content from one producer to promote links for another paysite (for instance she may have done some work for another producer that specialises in their babes wearing stockings or heels or something) and that's pretty much all your site is doing then someones not going to be happy. But otherwise if you stick with one affiliate program per domain and use their free content for graphics and such and the links to their Free Hosted Galleries (which will automatically have your affiliate ID's in the links on the FHG) then you won't really be all that bothered with chopping and changing promoters. Depending on the sponsor (whether they have an RSS feed) and your ability, you can be really clever and install a Wordpress blog on your domain and set up a cron job so your blog is updated daily by their feed, which again has your affiliate links in the feed, and pretty much set and forget. If you can get your site to rank highly for their name then you'll be doing pretty well for traffic.
