I have tried every spyware removal I can find and I still can't stop these damn popups that have hijacked my computers. Please help. They started when I was tricked into downloading something on my pc.
What OS do you have? Because XP SP2 has done me justice in the pop-up department, plus I have Yahoo Toolbar installed as well as Google Beta Toolbar...I forgot popups even existed. I'm more annoyed now with holding the CTRL key to allow the popups that I need to come through. Yahoo Toolbar also have a pretty good Spyware remover. I would also use Lavasoft Adaware to scan. If all else fails then try hijackthis. Panicware has a pretty good free popup blocker also. If you use any of the toolbars you should be fine and not need anything additional. But first thouroughly scan your system for viruses, adware, and spyware and make sure you do not have any questionable programs installed...before using a popup blocker. Hope this helps. Good luck.
So far, you da man! No pop ups. I had tried adaware, stopzilla, yahoo spyware on the toolbar and a few others any nothing had worked but this spy sweeper has impressed me so far. Thanks for the tip. Thanks to everyone else who chimed in. I appreciate your feedback.
Use Spybot search and destroy. BUT disconnect from the internet while removing any spyware! I find this to be a cause for many not able to fully remove even with good removal programs. I find it so odd to hear about pop-ups anymore. Some sites do have legit pop-ups for forms, etc.. and like others you have to know how to dissable temporarily your blockers to get to the good pop-ups. Many sites have had to drop any form of pop-ups because of this.
Don't get too comfortable, though - some of those highlighted in red could allow the attacker to take over your machine: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/known-vulnerabilities.html J.D.
When I must use IE for web designing and such, I use a program called Maxthon, it basically makes IE a tabbed browser and you set it to block popups, web ads (useful for blocking your own adsense) and a slew of other features. It is a bit of a resource hog, but, if ya gotta use IE, it's the only way to fly. On the adware front, I use both Spybot and Adaware with one another and that seems to get all of the bugs.
Firefox for the browser is the only sensible choice. If you want to get rid of spyware, just download the sweeper from www.webroot.com. It's the best I've found.
