Ok I have implemented a popup box that brings to the attention of my visitors that they can sign up for a newsletter, contest, and free gift etc.. I have had no sign-ups, well one but he did not confirm. I have had over 100 visits today and no clicks on my affiliate links. Here is my question is it bad practice to force the box on visitors or to use say a popunder. I want to build a nice list, but I don't want to sacrifice clicks to do it. Since I am an affiliate site I need the clicks. I just wanted to get the groups opinions. Also if you take a look at the site let me know any suggestions you have for me to increase conversions, or atleast generate more clicks. this is the site www.portablemediaconnection.com
If you like you can try a different approach. Place the optin box somewhere on your page and dont put it on a popup. Then only display the popup box when a user takes their mouse off the page, this will usually always be when they are leaving. This way you arent annoying people when they first come, and are giving them a reason to stay on your site if they make the decision to leave. Hope this helps
I agree. Let the user decide if they want to open the link or not. Personally sites with pop-ups discourage me from staying on them. When a pop-up opens I leave the site.
Done I removed the popup for now and I will maybe add a popunder at a later time. Thanks for all the help.
100 visits is not much. Personally I would make something that is eye catching on the site rather than having something popping up and annoying your visitors.
What about use a page peel script? You would draw the same kind of attention as a pop up...but without being so annoying!
