    Hi there,

I own and run: http://battlefield3forums.com i would like to have a pop much like the DP popup that pop's up occasionally... i want a popup that only opens once per person and needs to be non-intrusive.

Basically i just want to increase sign up's so i want to have the popup to display a quick splash / info section with reasons why people should sign up.

What would be the best way to go about this ? Jquery ?? CSS ??? any help with this is muchly appreciated.

    Regards, Darren

I would do CSS/jQuery (nearly everything in a browser depends on CSS) with Cookies.

    Google for it, enough tutorials

Thanks i was kinda hoping for a link lol.. as many of the jQuery ones ive found do not have options for once per person, i don't want my site becoming "annoying" and having the popup appear each time a visitor opens a new page, just popping up once per person is what i really require.

    Cheers for your feedback tho.

    http://www.w3schools.com/JS/js_cookies.asp

When user logs in, create a cookie, then check for the cookie when the page is accessed, if cookie exists, do not pop up ad window, if none present, then create ad window.

As Jeremy said, and I did that too... use Cookies.

I think the jQuery meerkat plugin can handle Cookies aswell. Google is your friend!

Thanks guys, the jQuery meerkat plugin looks impressive i am looking into this now, i don't want to lock my forums to registered users only so i will try this method to increase the sign up rates, hopefully this will help.

    Cheers

Damm that's sexy :p nice one. I used something close to that (much uglier and very few options) on a old blog: http://twilight-eclipse-movie.net/ (doesn't support cookies tho) and well not even close to being as sexy as your one.

    Nice board also :)

Uh well, the infobar is not what I meant.. hehehe.

I could make it much bigger, but who cares.

What I meant was the slider lol

LOL sorry, because i was referring to registrations i thought you were taking about your infobar with the login / reg area, i think i need to play around with vBulletin conditionals so i can display certain sections like a better "Register Now" thingee, most my registrations now are that of spammers / link droppers, i have permissions on sigs and external links but still somehow my site must be on some backlink lists because they sign up and never come back and i always see the "Modifying Profile" but anyways a while before BF3 is released so i am sure sign up's wont be a prob down the track it's just i would like to capitalize on the traffic a little more now.

Thanks for your feedback, not many of us who offer support / feedback for free anymore everyone out to make a buck, kinda surprised no one has PM'd me offering to make a popup for XXX amount of dollars lol.

I am using myBB and the original infobar is yellow, at the top and ugly... and you can not hide it.

So I have styled it, moved it to the bottom and I am using jQuery so you can click on "Close" and it's gone.

Well you can do a little "box" at the right bottom (nicely styled) where you can tell them to register. It's pretty easy to do (with some nice jQuery and cookies function) :D
