Popads.net & "Blocked Resources"

    Hi there,

In my webmasters tools, specifically in the "Blocked Resources"
I am having trouble with popads.net
The problem lies in preventing access to
    c2.popads.net/pop.js
    anycast.popads.net/checkInventory.php
    Prevent by
    c2.popads.net/robots.txt
    anycast.popads.net/robots.txt

Traffic dropped from google because of it.
Anyone else facing the same problem?

We had one publisher who asked that via support recently, but my attempts to explain the situation have failed.

So, at http:// anycast.popads.net/robots.txt we have our robots.txt file. It tells search engines if we want OUR subdomain(anycast.popads.net) indexed or not.
It is set in a way that we do not want it to be indexed. There is no way for this to affect indexing of your website.
In Google Webmaster central you will probably see that there are blocked resources due to robots.txt. Yet, please notice that these resources are http:// anycast.popads.net/checkInventory.php?......
This means that we do not allow Google to index our adserving(as there is no point to do that). Why is that showing in Google webmaster page? I do not know, I find it pointless and confusing too.
If your Google traffic has dropped then either it happened due to other reasons or (which I find rather unlikely) there is a bug on Google that makes external robots.txt affecing other domains.

This really should not affect the results in Google search.
But why would Google show it to me in my webmasters tools?

I'd say it is a bug. The more interesting question is - why it is not showing serve.popads.net there.
We do all our adserving with serve.popads.net. anycast.popads.net was mirror of serve.popads.net for some test period.

I believe that it is a kind of bug that Google fixed manually(ie. added serve.popads.net to some kind of whitelist so it does not show).
However, when we changed the adserving to anycast.popads.net it was not the whitelist and resulted in these warning messages.

The problem is we have no way to contact Google about this and the Feedback link in Webmaster center does not work...

Yup, that website from the screenshot does not seem to be our publisher. That is getting more and more interesting, but I hope it is clear that it is some bug from Google.
Like honestly, if that shows on websites which are NOT our publishers?

It just shows that we did not allow Google to crawl OUR domain. It does not affect crawling of your domain.

Why not give advertisers list of publisher websites? That way advertisers can choose on which they want to advertise easily. IMHO

I have found my blocked resource list decreased 1200+ to 1 and it didn't made any trouble in past few months.
So, i think we do not need to worry about it.
    Thanks everyone. :)
