Pop-Under advertising

    Hello experts!

I have used YPN and Google ads on various websites in the past, however I have not used any pop-under ad services, and I don't know where to start.

What are some of the bigger and widely used pop-under advertising services? Are there any favorites or ones to avoid?

    Thanks

Well the highest paying are valueclickmedia.com casalemedia.com and tribalfusion.com. I use vcm and tf average cpm is around 3.00-4.00. If you dont make the cut for them try paypopup, they have a fair few advertising spyware though.

This is for a new site, aimed at the younger generation (early 20's, teens).

Would vcm and tf require high amounts of traffic?

It is annoying to the user but is money.. You can get about $3.00 if you're lucky per 1,000 unique visitors to your site. :)

yikes! The new website doesn't have the traffic for these services.

    Any other suggestions?

ValueClick (formerly Fastclick) is probably your best chance to get in. TribalFusion is insanely difficult to get in, and requires a lot of traffic (high 4-figure uniques/day). But you should try applying for all of them anyway, because you never know who will accept you, and it costs you nothing to apply except a few minutes to fill out their forms. When you do apply, inflate your numbers a bit -- so if you average 1k/day, say 2k, etc. ;)

Also paypopup.com is another alternative, but rates are pretty low.
    1.000 USA unique=1.4$
    1.000 UK unique=1.8$
And other countries have lower rates.

What kind of site do you have? They don't take humor sites, blogs, etc.

In general, does everyone think the annoyance that your users encounter is worth adding Pop-Under Advertising?

I avoid sites that use pop ups or unders. I block most of them through the browser.

IMO if you are serious about your site I would avoid them.

I think most seasoned internet users know that popups come from 3 kinds of sites/sources: cracks, porn and viruses. Therefore any legitimate advertising campaing will be assumed as one of those.

I was tempted doing popunders on a few projects as the campaigns are pretty cheap, but the potential 'spam rep' is just too big to ignore.

OK, glad I'm not the only one that has that opinion. I put a pop-under on my site for two days, but I quickly took it down when I realized how annoying it really was.

I have a couple thoughts to add to this... I when I think of pop-unders or pop-ups, I think their presence is generally accepted if your site is offering on subjects that are more "sketchy," and the user doesn't want to turn away. I agree that porn and cracks sites are the best candidates -- if I am getting the right results then I put up with the pop-ups.

In the case of any site, I have a great chance of looking away if I only get a pop-under say 1/10 or 20 times depending on how many pages I am viewing...

I dont think one popup per session is annoying. If your blocker doesnt block it then its just one click to get rid of it how can it annoy you?

I just think it detracts from your site, unless your site is something like porn. Plus, if it is blocked, you won't receive any payment for it.

Funny enough popunders get the second highest ctr out of any campaign i run, second to interestrials only which i hardly use much because they really are annoying :) I think popunders work well on alot of sites not just porn, but i would agree they shouldnt be used on webmaster related sites. The highest networks of popunder advertising are the likes of valueclickmedia, casale media, tribal fusion etc who none of which allow porn sites to join there network i dont know why everyone applies popunders to porn sites.
