poor CTR

I own a small website with ~500 unique visitors a day.
I have one adsense banner on the top of the page.
My CTR is ~0.5%... it's pretty low right?
I notice the ads showing aren't really relevant to the content of the site, what is the best way to fix this?

    Thanks!

No one is going to be able to meaningfully answer your questions given the information (or lack thereof) that you have provided.

A top banner is not going to do very well. Maybe get some more ads near your content. A CTR is ~0.5% is below average but looks who talking. Mine is sucking lately also. You need to have some content then your ads should reflect this.

0.5% is pretty low, try to blend the content to your adsense layout

    Here's my advice...

    -Implement Adsense section targeting
-Try different ad formats...I notice the 300x250 works best for me, align to the left in the post.
-Adsense default color scheme works best! Don't get fancy

*Make sure you do one change at a time for say 1000-2000 impressions, this way you can track each change and determine which change provided the better CTR.

I don't follow that logic. CTR is the percentage of clicks. If the traffic goes up, why would the percentage increase...the overall number of clicks may go up, but why would the percentage increase?

Put more ads on your site/blog. That would be the best answer, IMHO! Place some ads near your content. Then, blend it on your template. And lastly, more more more more traffic :)

Try bigger ad blocks like large rectangle. Also blend your ads color with site's color to increase ctr.

if it is showing non relevant ads, then probably ur page is not indexed yet.

click thru rate varies everyday. So dun worry about it.

    Thanks a lot everybody!
I got a lot of good advise here.
As for changing the location, colors, or adding more ads... I'm worried it will ruin the site look... which I think is pretty nice right now.

So I was hoping to get more advice on how to improve the relevance of the ads showing on my site.
My pages are indexed. I'm getting somewhat relevant ads but not really. The problem is my site has very little textual content and mostly contain flash applications.
Is there a way to help google figure what my site is about?

Just wanted to update, I added a little bit more of my keywords in the site content, and it already did wonders to the relevance of the ads!!!!
I guess because my site doesn't have a lot of textual content, just a small change had a big effect.
I'm expecting to see an improved CTR.
Next I'll try to add a few more ads.

    Thanks!
