    Ok I do not know about the rest of you but when I started here my paypal was empty. I have had no problem what so ever finding work or selling it either. In fact some of my work has come because I posted for other work on this site and got them by messenger. If this site was not free this could not and would not be accomplished.

    Sundaybrew is right if you read there are many posts on this subject. All of which end in a no. This kind of thing does not help anyone when you rehash things over and over again.

    I like it here yes some things are not to my liking but guess what it is FREE so I don't gripe. I go with the flow and let things work themselves out.

    Course this is just my two cents but think of this ladies and gentlemen We do not own this forum Shawn does. If he says no then the answer is no. There is no sense trying to change his mind because you will not do it.

    One word stupidity sundaybrew. Do you actually think this site would have gotten so popular if it was not free? If you had to pay a monthly fee or even a one time fee to be here how would you get new content? A lot of people are getting (have gotten) their start here.

    This is getting ridiculous sundaybrew I agree totally.

    Some just want it paid so they can "corner" the marketplace, thats what its really all about..

    No matter how long this silly thread stays open, the fact remains that Shawn said no, in like 200 other threads............

    Precisely and I think that is what annoys me the most. Problem they do not realize this but one day someone is going to the same to them. Karma is weird this way always comes back to bite you when you least expect it.

    The only ridiculous thing in this thread is the BS about 'cornering markets' and stuff. Get real. Personally, I'm generally a BUYER in the marketplace, not a seller. As a buyer I am using the marketplace less and less simply because I can't be arsed with all the junk. When I do sell I would also prefer my threads not get buried within 30 seconds.

    Anyhoo, my own opinion is that a paid-for marketplace could run quite happily alongside the existing free one.

    It's a simple concept - use the free marketplace or use the paid one - the webmaster has the choice. I'm quite sure many webmasters would elect to use the paid BST to showcase better quality stuff, resulting in better quality content all in one place and therefore a return of many of our 'lost' webmasters who have moved elsewhere due at least in part to the avalanche of junk threads in the BST as has already been discussed.

    ok , so what happens when 41,000 members decide to pay the fee?

    Then you will be asking to make another more expensive one.......

    Yep Im with the paid listings section 100%....

    I also use sitepoint and ONLY advertise my major sales through their system as there isnt the huge amount of cr*p clogging up the threads.

    I use the BST section here as well (a lot) but for free services, and for finding "cheap labour" (I'll probably be as unpopular as hell for saying that):D

    I couldnt/wouldnt use it to advertise proper services or my major website sales, for those Im happy paying the $40 per listing that sitepoint charge.

    I would be a definite customer of a paid BST section

    just thought of something as well:

    if we DID have a paid section, you could probably drop the "trades"
    (who's really gonna pay for a trade?)

    That would make it a "Paid BS" section - wouldnt that be just too similar to what we've already got !!!!!!!

    Its evolution, darwinsim, survival of the strongest!

    Owners of the better quality sites, which are likely to sell, are likely to pay to go in the premium section.

    Owners of the lower quality sites, which are likely to sell for less, are not likely to pay to go in the premium section.

    Excellent - let the (r)evolution flow!!

    I think that a paid buy/sell section just for website sales would be beneficial

    I say go for it, it will bring more income to DP and I would also pay to use this new Marketplace, if the prices are good, like the SitePoint prices!

    Great Idea, I hope this does get released here at DigitalPoint, it is really needed :p!

    People on this thread have a hard time keeping two thoughts together. The Topic Creator suggested that there be Two B/S/T sections, one being paid, and the other free. If you are selling your SIG for $6, then well post in the free section and take in all your profits. I am personally sick of having to rumble through 4 pages in each section every day to find 1 or 2 decent sales. Most sales are on $1-$2 services or products, which I personally view as garbage, sorry if I'm offending someone. If you have a serious product or service, then it's worth $50, and it's worth posting in a paid section.

    I do agree with you when you say that there are "garbage products"

    Oh and hell yes there are many

    BUT - The whole key or reason why its not going to happen and Shawn has said no like a gazillion times..is

    Drumroll Please ****

    Its a webmaster forum for support

    NOT ebay, Not gumtree, Not overstock

    Its a "webmaster discussion forum"

    see ;

    <meta name="keywords" content="search engine marketing" />
    <meta name="description" content="Search Engine Optimization and Marketing forum." />

    So with that said - you might be able to understand

    Just think of the b/s/t as a "coat closet" in a mansion.

    Sure , Its extra space in your home, But you can't fit a car in it.

    Do you guys see the "whole picture"

    Its a "webmaster forum"...

    This is like trying to tell Matt Cuts to open a BST

    That is what is it at the moment.

    However, things move on, things evolve, things improve. That is what this thread is about.

    The only thing I'd support would be 2 marketplaces that have different prices. The freebies section should be 100% free in my opinion. Then a section for under $xx and one for over $xx. This would mean people looking for sites worth hundreds would not have to look at a bunch of auto created blogs that people are selling at like $12 dollars each.
