Americans, do you know, without checking, the 5 rights guaranteed to you by the First Amendment? In case you don't: Cheat Sheet
Civics education was greatly reduced in American public schools, because it was seen as being too "American" and not "multicultural." Now we have a generation of Americans who don't know their rights and a government that doesn't care about the people's rights.
freedom of speech, no establishment of religeon, freedom of press, right to redress the govt....uh...I think I'm short one; btw: do you believe these are absolute or conditioned?
Thanks EarlPearl, I think they are conditioned, what do you say? I became interested in this after reading about the "1 for All" campaign, it seems like a great idea.
They are definitely conditioned. All rights are conditioned. Anything taken to an extreme ends up violating other rights. The classic example of a conditioned right on freedom of speech is that you can't yell "fire" in a crowded movie theater. That could cause a stampede and people could get harmed. Its a simple description of the many cases that work their ways through the courts as various principles come into conflict with one another. BTW: the one I missed is the right to peaceable assembly.
I had a company that made a credit-card sized plastic card with the entire Bill of Rights on it. I carry one in my wallet.
